Lost territory 2 - the refugee citizens

They were the kind of citizens most other kingdoms craved for. And, of course, the native kingdom took great pride in them. Rightly, they had occupied the prime territory and had flourished along with the kingdom.

As one would expect about anything largely envied, the kingdom was cast a spell over and darker days ensued. The kingdom got plagued with an unfathomable illness/infiltrators and they struck a telling blow on the much cherished territory and its citizens. The king was, I repeat, neck deep in frivolity; in vanity of his accomplishments; living in past glory turning a blind eye to the impending doom. Before he could get off his hangover, the kingdom was already ruined. The much loved citizens were dead in heaps. Their territory was incinerated and poisoned leaving no chance of revival. Some of them managed to escape and live like scavengers in the underbelly of the kingdom. Some brave souls managed to hold their ground although, they knew they wouldn't last long there.

Now as the king is awake, ashamed and alarmed, a self-hating furious anger takes over him. He ought to be punished for his callousness towards his subjects. But, he just can't do that for there is none but him to protect the rest of the survivors; to restore the state of affairs. The king takes a vow and declares emergency. He is gonna cleanse every single germ in the system. The prosperity of his cherished territory shall be restored. The citizens who are living like misplaced refugees shall return to their home. Trade, education, arts, love and science will flourish.

The plan is simple

  1. Stem the rot - no indulgent activity that would open the doors to further damages
  2. Protect the survivors - the survivors are the greatest source of inspiration and hope! They deserve respect, admiration and care.
  3. Guide the misplaced - the cowards who fled to stay alive and have formed underground colonies are not the kind the kingdom would encourage. They shall be converted and reinstated.
  4. Resurrect the dead - That's where the wise old minister comes in. The king used to often ignore him, in pride and arrogance. But, the lessons of time have served the king well to know better what's good for him. The minister is sure to do the trick for the King.
Interesting times ahead!
